After the Uniform

After the Uniform is a set of panel discussions hosted by Volunteers of America.  The purpose behind the discussions is to elucidate the challenges facing service members as they attempt to re-integrate into civilian society in ever increasing numbers.  With the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan drawing to conclusions, there are serious issues with the veteran support structure in the United States that need to be rectified, and quickly.  Volunteers of America recognizes this and is looking to use these discussions over the next three years as a springboard to energize communities at home in support of our nations' heroes.

The Inaugural Panel - May 8th, 2012
National Press Club

I was very fortunate to be able to attend this panel discussion.  It was very informative to know where things stand in Washington and around the country.  It was also insightful to hear the latest Veteran statistics and to learn about initiatives planned for the future.  I already have next year's panel on my radar and plan to attend.  Thank you, Volunteers of America, for hosting this event and for getting me involved!

Combat Veterans with PTSD Blog Coverage

Leading up to the event, I blogged about the biggest issues facing veterans.  I also followed up and blogged about my impression of each of the panel members and the mediator.  I will do the same for the next three years as I cover future panels.  If you want to know more, I have listed the blog entries and links to each one.

News and Information

I have included the Volunteers of America Twitter Feed for those that are interested in keeping up to date on their latest initiatives and news.
